Shawn Slevin Joins Neir’s Ambassadors Club to Promote Swim Safety
Slevin, the Executive Director of Swim Strong Foundation, has spent nearly 20 years leading efforts to prevent drownings through swim education and water safety advocacy. Now, as a Neir’s Ambassador, she’s not only helping preserve a piece of New York history — she’s bringing more attention to a cause that saves lives every day.
“Swimming is more than a sport — it’s a life skill that everyone deserves to have,” said Slevin. “I’m excited to connect this mission with a place like Neir’s that believes in community and impact.”
According to the CDC, drowning is one of the leading causes of death for children, and many of these tragedies are preventable. Through Swim Strong Foundation, Slevin has helped thousands of New Yorkers — especially in underserved communities — learn to swim safely. Her partnership with Neir’s is about multiplying that impact.
Founded in 1829, Neir’s Tavern has been a beloved fixture in the Woodhaven, Queens community and is widely considered one of New York’s most treasured historical landmarks. With the Ambassadors Club, Neir’s is building a network of champions dedicated to keeping its legacy alive.
“Shawn is doing more than supporting a historic bar — she’s helping save lives,” said Loycent Gordon, Owner of Neir’s Tavern. “We’re proud to have her as part of this movement.”
The Neir’s Ambassadors Club offers members a meaningful way to support the tavern’s preservation while being recognized for the causes they care about.
