Neir’s Tavern emerges after struggles to celebrate 195th birthday — with help of dedicated ‘ambassadors’
Queens, NY – July 24, 2025 – Neir’s Tavern is proud to celebrate its 195th anniversary — a nearly two-century journey made possible by a devoted community and the unwavering support of the Neir’s Ambassadors Club.
As one of the oldest bars in the United States, Neir’s has weathered decades of change, including the threat of permanent closure just five years ago. But through that struggle, something remarkable happened — a new generation of advocates rose up to protect the legacy of this Woodhaven landmark.
Among them are the Neir’s Ambassadors — a growing network of individuals who have stepped forward to preserve the tavern’s history while helping elevate its Road to 200 campaign. These ambassadors use their voices, platforms, and passion to keep Neir’s alive as a beacon of community resilience.
“Neir’s isn’t just about what’s in the glass — it’s about who’s around it,” said Loycent Gordon, Owner of Neir’s Tavern. “We’ve survived thanks to the people who believed we were worth saving. They’ve become our ambassadors, our storytellers, and our strength.”
In the years since its near-closure, Neir’s Tavern has transformed into a symbol of neighborhood pride — drawing support from loyal patrons, elected officials, and advocates from all walks of life. Their efforts have helped restore not only a business, but a cultural cornerstone of Queens.
“Being part of Neir’s means standing for something bigger than yourself,” added Gordon. “Our ambassadors understand that — and they’re the reason we’ve made it to 195 years.”
The Neir’s Ambassadors Club continues to welcome passionate individuals who wish to support the tavern while uplifting causes they care about — from heritage preservation to social impact.
